The purpose of my research is to examine a particular global development, namely that of hybrid actors operating in a grey zone between private and public sectors, aiming to solve social and environmental issues. These actors are identified as social entrepreneurs, environmental enterprises, eco-enterprises, benefit corporations etc. Following the emergence of such actors, a number of issues arise, especially related to their motivation for doing what they do, how they address environmental challenges in innovative ways, financial aspects, their accountability, and finally, how they increasingly shape environmental governance and how corporations function in the economy.
