The course is based on a socio-economic approach, linking interdisciplinary concepts and theories in social sciences with empirical observations and specific knowledge on development. It discusses the major strategies and theories of development and introduces the current debates on alternative development, in particular through local development, popular economy, social and solidarity economy, social innovation and social entrepreneurship.
