EMCCINNO

Full title: Empowering Cultural and Creative Industries for a Sustainable Climate Transition
Acronym: EMCCINNO

The EMCCINNO project (EMpowering CCIs to boost systemic INNOvation for sustainable climate transition), a pioneering initiative aimed at equipping Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs) with the tools and knowledge necessary to drive innovation and sustainability in response to climate change. Achieving these goals requires not only technological advancements but also deep social and cultural transformations, which is where the CCIs play a pivotal role.

Despite their crucial contribution, many small and medium-sized cultural and artistic social enterprises are vulnerable due to limited resources, fragmentation, and the adverse impacts of climate change. These organisations, however, possess unique insights, as they work closely with local communities and engage in cooperative efforts that allow them to identify emerging social and environmental demands. Through their proximity to citizens, these enterprises can propose creative solutions and inspire wider cultural change.

The EMCCINNO project seeks to address these challenges by refining, testing, and validating sustainable business models within the CCIs sector, especially focusing on cultural and artistic social enterprises (CASEs). The project will support these organisations in developing prototypes for real-world impact, enabling them to scale their efforts and contribute to the EU’s climate goals. The initiative brings together five diverse organisations from five EU Member States, all of which will work closely with researchers to design and implement sustainability transition solutions tailored to their specific needs.

With this project, EMCCINNO aims to boost the capacity of CCIs, promoting systemic innovation and ensuring that these organisations can play a central role in shaping a sustainable, climate-conscious future. Through collaboration and innovative thinking, the project will empower cultural and artistic social enterprises to become key drivers in the climate transition.

The kick-off meeting of EMCCINNO was held in Marseille, hosted by AMU and La Friche Belle de Mai on 25th and 26th of February 2025.

EMCCINNO is an EU Horizon project with a duration of three years (February 2025 to January 2028).
