Transdisciplinary Day at the next #9EMESconf

Transdisciplinary Forum (TDF) aims to facilitate dialogue and exchange between the academic community, SE practitioners, and policymakers. This will be the sixth edition of the Forum (following on from Liege in 2013, Helsinki in 2015, Louvain in 2017, Sheffield in 2019 and Teruel in 2021).

The 2023 TDF will take place on the first day of the 9th EMES International Research Conference (11 September) and will host several different sessions covering a variety of topics. These sessions aim to bring together German social enterprises and cooperatives, EU federations, policymakers and researchers to learn new trends in Germany and internationally, compare progress in different regions, countries, and sectors, and identify research needs while giving the unique possibility for networking.

As stated by Dr Nicole Göler von Ravensburg, #9EMESconf 2023 Conference co-chair:

“We trust that our applied research approaches will contribute to the discourse in EMES, especially in its endeavours to assess the various effects social enterprise and cooperative activities can and do have on the common good, on clients, customers and all other stakeholders. The well-developed German welfare system, social work education and high levels of civic engagement will offer visiting scholars valuable insights into the dos and don’ts of policy-making, training, education and governance for and in the social economy.”

These sessions attract many participants, academics, policymakers, and local practitioners keen to exchange ideas with SE researchers and willing to see how to advance practice and policy based on research. Participants will have the unique opportunity to exchange views and learn from each other on topics relevant to social and solidarity economy as renewable energy cooperatives, regional social innovation development, social finance, work integration social enterprises, secondary cooperatives, knowledge transfer from Universities to support SE, migration issues and classical and contemporary SE movements. As usual, these are highly engaged sessions generating much debate. Moreover, this year, study visits to local social enterprises will be included in the programme to offer a unique first-hand experience of Frankfurt’s local ecosystems.
